About the Job
The Department of Computer Science at Lehman College invites applications for a lecturer position beginning Fall 2018. The successful candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching courses ranging from undergraduate introductory programming to upper level undergraduate and perhaps graduate level courses in their area of expertise. They will teach courses that directly prepare students for careers as software developers and will be actively engaged in the development of such courses and curriculum. They will provide academic and career guidance to students. As do all Lehman College faculty, they will provide service not only to the department, but to the university and community as well.
Applicants with interests in all Computer Science disciplines will be considered. The department especially encourages applications from candidates with industry as well as teaching experience in the areas of Web Development, Mobile Development, Cloud Development, Software Engineering, and Distributed and Parallel Programming. Other areas of interest are Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, Data Science, Networking, Operating Systems, Security, and Systems Architecture.
The Department of Computer Science, which was spun off from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in July 2017, currently consists of seven tenure track faculty and one lecturer, and plans to expand aggressively in the coming years. The department offers undergraduate (B.S. & B.A.) and graduate (M.S.) degrees. The Department has a strong focus on undergraduate education. Our undergraduates are well prepared to find jobs and internships or to continue graduate education. Recently, the Department formed a partnership with New York City called the “Tech Talent Pipeline,” which funds internships for students to gain experience in the tech industry.
The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution serving the borough and surrounding region as an intellectual, economic and cultural center. Lehman provides undergraduate and graduate studies in the liberal arts and sciences and professional education within a dynamic research environment. With a diverse student body of more than 13,000, Lehman offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate programs. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or very closely related field. Ability to teach successfully and cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Industry and/or teaching experience in areas of software development. Web, Mobile, Cloud, Distributed, and Parallel programming development knowledge, skills, and experience are a particular focus of this search. Other areas of interest are Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, Data Science, Networking, Operating Systems, Security, and Systems Architecture.
Commensurate with education and experience.
