The National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering announces a nationwide search to fill the position of Division Director, Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI). The Division Director serves as a member of the senior executive team in the Directorate for Engineering (ENG) and provides leadership and direction to CMMI. The Division Director leads a team of program officers, analysts and administrative professionals in managing a broad portfolio of more than $200M of investments in research and education across a range of engineering disciplines addressing the frontiers of knowledge that advance the Nation’s prosperity, health, and infrastructure.

CMMI funds research to enable advances in: manufacturing across scales ranging from nanometers to kilometers; the transformation and use of engineering materials, including the study of biomechanics; the design and use of civil infrastructure systems, including interaction with society and the natural environment; the mathematical and decision-making aspects of engineering, including design and optimization; and the control of dynamic systems (including robotics) and including the interface of systems with people.

The position provides an unparalleled opportunity to lead the Division to support research at the forefront of advancing fundamental knowledge in engineering; to share in the management responsibility of the Directorate for Engineering to advance NSF’s overall mission; to stimulate innovation and address societal needs through research and education, and to excel as a federal science agency.

Appointment to this Senior Executive Service position may be on a career or on a one to three-year limited-term basis, with a salary range of $165,842 to $184,142.
