About the Job

The Department of Engineering Technology of the Newark College of Engineering at NJIT invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET). By the time of appointment, successful candidates must have earned a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with a record of pertinent high-quality research in a related engineering field. Candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Applicable industrial experience and prior teaching experience are highly desirable. Moreover, applicants who also have a documented interest in Engineering Education and Engineering Education research will have a preference.


The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate MET courses, demonstrate potential to establish strong industrial collaborations, and participate in the development of a Makerspace for advanced manufacturing and robotics at NJIT. S/he is also expected to engage in data collection and analysis focused on course and lab development, delivery and pedagogy, and assist in advancing Engineering Education research at NJIT. Based on qualifications, the Department will seek a joint appointment for the Candidate with the NJIT Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (M&IE), which would provide him/her with opportunities to engage in academic research with graduate research assistants.


In addition to the traditional areas of research in Mechanical Engineering, and Engineering Education, other areas of research and academic interest of particular relevance include:

  • Engineering Mechanics
  • Materials Engineering
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Experiential Learning


At over 800 students, the Department of Engineering Technology has one of the largest undergraduate enrollments within the Newark College of Engineering, and is well known for providing a balance of theory and hands-on education. The NJIT campus is located in Newark, which is the largest city in New Jersey, 12 miles away from New York City. The state of New Jersey is home to a large number of industries, including several Fortune 100 and 500 companies in the Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industries.
